Don’t forget to follow these 5 tips for cost savings!

At the beginning of May we shared ways you can save money on your air conditioning bill this spring and summer. Let’s continue to explore cost savings with taking a look at how you can conserve water and save on your water bill with these 5 tips:

1. LEAKY FAUCETS OR PIPES - If you have leaky faucets or pipes, you are more than likely experiencing an increase in your monthly water bill. Identify where the leak exists and have it repaired immediately. Even small leaks that don’t seem significant can become major problems and could cost you a lot of money.

2. WASTING WATER ON TRASH - Unfortunately this happens quite a bit-flushing trash such as tissues down the toilet. Make sure to have wastebaskets available in your bathrooms so people can throw their tissues or other trash in the garbage instead of wasting water to flush it.

3. MINIMIZE SHOWER TIME - Showers are a huge water waster! When you are heating up the shower, be mindful of how long you are allowing it to run. Once you are in the shower, make sure you have everything you need handy (e.g. soap, shampoo, razor, etc.) to quickly complete your shower routine. If you are shaving, you may want to consider turning the shower off until you are ready to rinse.

4. TURN WATER OFF WHEN BRUSHING TEETH - It’s easy to forget this one, but it’s a good habit to develop. Turning the water off while you are brushing your teeth can save a lot of water.

5. WASH FULL LOADS - Wait until you have a full load of clothes or dishes before you run your washer or dishwasher. Even when you change the settings for smaller loads, it will still save you water usage if you wait until you can run a full load.
