Douglasville Air Conditioning | Allergens in your Home

Your home is the last place you’d want to have excess amounts of allergens. Here are some tips to avoid allergen buildup for a more comfortable time:

  • Much of the allergens in your home are derived from the dirt and debris from outside. The cleaner the cleaner the perimeter of your home, the fewer amounts of dirt and debris that will enter the premises. Also, make sure you have mats at the entrances and exits of your home to lower the amount of allergens tracked in your home. Don’t forget to clean those mats or they won’t be as effective.
  • If you own a pet, make sure to regularly brush it outside. This will help lower the amount of animal dander and allergens caught in the fur from invading your home.
  • High efficiency particulate air filters are hospital grade filtration units with a 99.97% efficiency against 0.3-micron particles. Using these will greatly minimize the amount of air allergens running amok in your home. Regular air filters are designed to only protect your cooling and heating systems and do not really help at reducing airborne pollutants.
  • For those that enjoy open windows in the home, make sure to have a screen to help prevent debris and insects from coming inside.
  • Cleaning and dusting your home weekly is an effective way to help keep the air indoors clean. For areas in the home that experience a lot of traffic, it may be wise to clean a little more frequently. It is also important to vacuum all rugs and carpets on a regular basis because the dust and particles that readily collect there can be stirred up by anybody walking by.
  • Lately we’ve been experiencing a lot of rain, so make sure the inside of your home stays dry to prevent mold and mildew from growing and creating spores. Look for leaks and patch them up.
